Whilst the majority of people that visit the Alps do so in the winter to participate in winter sports, the summer is becoming more and more popular. It is easy to see why, clear mountain air, scenery, lack of crowds to name a few. Cyclists have know about the the roads and passes in the mountains for years and the Tour de France would not be the spectacle that is without the mountains. A number of passes that are used in the Tour are with easy reach of  Ste Foy, Col d’Iseran (the highest paved road in Europe) , The Cormet de Roseland and Petit St Bernard were both used in the 2009 Tour, The Galibier, Col de Madeline, Col de Glandon, Col de Croix de la Fer and Alpe d’Huez are within easy reach now the snow has melted. There a number of  sportives run throughout the summer and the aparrtment would make an ideal base to explore the mountains further.

Mountain Biking or VTT as it is known in France is fast becoming as popular as winter sports and resorts are opening their lift systems and adapting them in the summer to carry mountain bikes. Ste Foy operates a lift service up to the top of the second chair lift and from here routes run off in all directions, a list of all tracks is available from the tourist office.. The other local resorts of Tignes, Les Arcs and La Rosiere with its link to Italy all have challenging mountain biking.

The mountains have also become the playground of  extreme sports enthusiasts, you can participate locally in white water rafting, canyoning, kayaking, (Bourg St Maurice held the world championships in 2005) and parapenting. Golf , courses in Tignes and Les Arcs, and Tennis are also available locally.

For those who just want to relax can vist the beautiful lakeside town of Annecy or visit the roman ruins in Aosta, Italy, they are both just over an hour away. The local town of  Bourg St Maurice has a great local market on Saturdays full of local produce including alpine honey, cheeses etc.

For those with children, the adventure park in Longfoy takes some beating as my 2 children have spent many an afternoon swinging through the trees.
